Markets, showcooking, food excellence: the White Truffle Exhibition is back in the historic centre of Città di Castello. After a year of stop due to the Covid the kermesse dedicated to the king of the forest takes back the squares and attention on the weekend of the Saints

 

The army of quarrymen is already working in the woods of the Upper Tiber: the exhibition of the White Truffle of Città di Castello is just around the corner.

After the end of the 2020 edition due to the health emergency, returns from 30 October to 1 November in Città di Castello the 41st edition of the National White Truffle Market Exhibition: a three-day fixed stage for truffle lovers and above all, of the White Truffle of the Upper Tiber.

Since its inception, the exhibition has been a fundamental engine of promotion not only for the white truffle for the whole territory of the Upper Tiber Valley. This new edition, in compliance with all the regulations against Covid, already has the unmistakable scent of truffle, the excellent food of the territory and Italian.

The event promoted by the municipality of Città di Castello, the association Mostra del Tartufo, the association Tartufai, along with the Umbria Region and local public bodies, including the LAG with the project Degustibus, will be an opportunity not to be missed.

An exceptional showcase to celebrate all types of truffles, because in this area, the microclimate offers a truffle for every season. And in autumn the trifola is the king of the forest. “The four seasons of truffles” is not by chance the slogan, chosen already by some editions, for the event that will also propose markets, salons, tastings, workshops of taste, cooking shows.

There will be events, free tastings, based on traditional dishes with recipes embellished with the precious truffle that are organized through the project Degustibus, funded by the LAG Alta Umbria with the town of Città di Castello as leader, The cooking shows will enliven the exhibition and will allow visitors to make real experiences on the knowledge of the flavors and taste of the excellent food products of the territory.

But there is no truffle without the quarrymen: the National Association Città del Tartufo, of which the City of Città di Castello is a member, is promoting the candidacy for intangible heritage of UNESCO truffle culture. The candidacy concerns a very wide activity that involves the training of the dog and its use in the phases of search and extraction, the search of the various types of truffles, the subsequent conservation and, finally, the gastronomic use. Città di Castello and the whole territory of the Upper Tiber Valley have contributed actively to the route, participating in the initiatives planned by the Ministry and the Association itself noting the quality and importance of the Truffle and its related essential for the promotion of the territory, but especially for economic development and tourism.

“The exhibition is a fundamental event for the economic and tourist fabric of our territory – says Mauro Severini, representing the promoting committee – Unfortunately we had to skip the 2020 edition because of the pandemic and this year, thanks to the arrival of vaccines, we are working to create a forty-first edition in safety, keeping alive the spirit of an event that is part of our city fabric”.
