Music, nature and sustainability among the villages and landscapes of Umbria.
Art, respect for the territory and cultural accessibility. Since its first edition, the Festival has transformed Umbria into a widespread stage, combining cultured music, promotion of the territory and cultural accessibility. The 2025 edition that kicked off in June, the ninth, includes 100 concerts in 40 Umbrian municipalities, with over 200 artists from 4 continents. International grand finale on November 17, 2025 at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Conceived by maestro Maurizio Mastrini, the festival every week enlivens the villages, woods and fortresses of Umbria, bringing great music where the beauty of the landscape meets the depth of art. A unique festival of its kind, which for years has stood out for its zero environmental impact and completely free access to concerts, combining culture and sustainability in a project of international scope.
Each Green Music concert is designed to respect the environment, enhance the places and offer immersive experiences: from musical sunrises to sunset concerts, from candlelit evenings to straw theatres, made with intertwined straw bales that form natural amphitheatres, integrating harmoniously with the landscape.
“This year we are enthusiastically celebrating the ninth edition of the International Green Music Festival, a milestone that has a special meaning for me. In fact, the tenth edition is approaching, the one that from the beginning, back in 2016, I had imagined as a point of arrival and, at the same time, a springboard to make this event fly higher and higher. I still remember the first concerts with emotion: they were simple, collected, almost timid appointments, concentrated in the month of August. From those seeds a surprising path was born, which took shape year after year, transforming itself into the International Green Music Festival, now also recognized internationally. The founding idea has remained the same: to create a festival in which music and sustainability could grow together, with an increasingly broad scope. A festival that was free, accessible, immersed in nature and in less conventional places, capable of bringing beauty and awareness, through art. The work done in recent years has been enormous, shared with a passionate team and the support of many institutional and associative realities. For 2025, we have set ourselves an ambitious goal: 100 events in over 40 Umbrian locations, always in the name of musical quality and respect for the environment. For us, however, sustainability is not only environmental. It also means economic balance, social inclusion and cultural continuity. It means building something that can last over time, that is useful to the territory and to future generations. When we talk about ‘sustainability’, we want it to be a concrete commitment, not just a slogan”, he declared.
The Festival is supported by numerous public and private bodies, including the Umbria Region and the Trasimeno-Orvieto LAG, which has accompanied it since the second edition.
Among the guests expected in the coming weeks there is one of the great voices of Italian music: Orietta Berti on August 1st, at 21:00, will take the stage at the Parco dell’Imbersato in Bevagna with her unmistakable style, for a concert that will combine elegance, emotion and lightness. An event that will celebrate an extraordinary career, spanning over sixty years, studded with successes, artistic evolutions and collaborations with the new generations. And again, on August 2, at the Rocca di Castiglione del Lago it will be time for Luca Barbarossa with “Words and music”. Winner of Sanremo Giovani in 1981, he is the author of iconic songs such as Portami a ballare and Roma è de tutti. He has collaborated with important songwriting artists, blending music, theatre and storytelling.
On August 3 at 9 pm, on the evocative churchyard of the Cathedral of Orvieto, a theatrical and musical show will be staged conceived and performed by Stefano Fresi (voice, guitar, keyboards) together with Cristiana Polegri (voice, saxophones) and Egidio Marchitelli on guitar. Through songs, original monologues and lyrics taken from Fabrizio De André’s diaries, the evening will explore the three great central themes of his poetics: love, war and ‘the last ones’.
The pianist and composer Maurizio Mastrini, founder and artistic director of the International Green Music Festival, will perform on August 8 at 6:30 pm in the splendid setting of Bolsena.
An artist known internationally for his original style, Mastrini combines classical music, improvisation and contemporary influences in a unique and deeply emotional language. His compositions, often also used in theatre, cinema and TV, transport the audience on an intimate and evocative journey.
In addition to his concert career, Mastrini is actively involved in the training of young musicians, contributing to the dissemination of musical culture with passion and vision. But the concerts do not end there.
