History and Philosophy

The land and its fruits, passion and entrepreneurial vision: Terre di GIORGIO is a farming and winemaking estate that blends tradition and innovation. A historic farmhouse, Villa La Palazzetta, has been transformed into a charming agriturismo, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, fragrant gardens, and saffron fields, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Val d’Orcia, overlooking Mount Amiata.

“We discovered this magical place in 2019,” explains Alberto Giorgio – also the owner of a forensic engineering firm. “I have always been passionate about good food, wine, nature, and innovative projects. Here I found a new challenge: land perfectly suited for producing great wine and for creating top-level hospitality.”

In 2019, Alberto Giorgio and his wife Maja recognized the untapped potential of Castiglione d’Orcia: “It is the most beautiful yet least celebrated of the villages. Together, we found this extraordinary estate, surrounded ourselves with a capable and reliable team, and everything else followed.” That “everything else” is what today defines Terre di Giorgio.

The Farmhouse

Equipped with every comfort, the agriturismo is a historic estate between the Val d’Orcia and Mount Amiata, featuring eight rooms, two suites, and a restaurant. Once the hunting lodge of the County of Vivo, residence of the noble Cervini family, the property is set within two hectares of parkland and centuries-old woods, with a fifteen-meter pool nestled in a unique natural setting among gardens, orchards, flowers, and saffron fields – an ideal place for outdoor activities.

The rooms and suites combine Tuscan elegance with modern comfort. The panoramic terrace overlooks both the pool and the ancient volcano of Mount Amiata.

“In this one-of-a-kind setting, guests can taste our estate wines paired with dishes from our kitchen, or enjoy an unforgettable aperitivo with views of Mount Amiata. The estate extends over 110 hectares and includes several farmhouses dedicated to agricultural activities, among them a soon-to-open mill for processing our own grains and cereals, with the agriturismo as the estate’s central hub.”

Here, far from the roads, silence reigns. At night, the sky is filled with constellations, accompanied only by the croaking of frogs; by day, the sound of grazing herds. An experience that nourishes the spirit: Tuscany in its purest splendor.

Organic Wines

“We restored several vineyards to their full potential and planted new ones, following the best agronomic practices while also adapting to climate change—selecting the finest exposures and cultivation methods to allow October harvests. Only autumn’s temperature shifts at the foot of Mount Amiata can guarantee wines of exceptional quality.

Today we produce Calus (with three vintages already in the cellar, the first in 2021), a pure Sangiovese super cru sourced from a single vineyard (Vigna Diana). Calus is an Etruscan word dear to us, honoring those who inhabited these lands before us. Another vineyard in full production (Vigna delle Querce) will yield our Terre di GIORGIO label, designed to be the wine first poured for our guests. We also produce Diana, a natural rosé, 100% Sangiovese.

In the coming years, visitors will also be able to taste wines from Cabernet Franc, Vermentino, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay. Every wine we make comes from a single vineyard and a single grape variety – our super cru philosophy.

Our soils are clay-based—difficult to work, yet rich in minerals from the Pliocene seas—producing wines of great structure, intense aromas, and remarkable longevity, capable of aging for over twenty years.”

Elegant, organic, and refined, the wines can be tasted and purchased exclusively at the estate. Each bottle reflects the terroir and the vintage, the result of meticulous attention to every stage of the process, from vineyard planting to harvest. All farming activities are overseen by estate manager Gianfranco Moi.

Olive Oil and Saffron

Alongside wine, Terre di GIORGIO produces extra-virgin olive oil from centuries-old groves – certified POD Terre di Siena – and top-grade saffron from pure hand-harvested stigmas, the fruit of meticulous artisanal care.

Cuisine

The kitchen at Terre di GIORGIO is led by Chef Maurizio D’Incognito, who transforms the estate’s organic products into creative and memorable dishes. Each proposal is born in harmony with the agricultural cycle, blending tradition and innovation to deliver authentic and refined gastronomic experiences.

The chef’s philosophy mirrors that of the estate: celebrating the Val d’Orcia and its ingredients through a cuisine that surprises without ever betraying the land’s roots.

The agriturismo is also the perfect setting for special occasions, from romantic dinners to private events. In the dining room, maître Giulio Capecchi – himself from the Val d’Orcia and a guardian of its values—welcomes guests with elegance, conviviality, and attention to detail.
