From 14 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, the Christmas City invites you to rediscover Arezzo through festive markets, Tyrolean specialities and wonders for the whole family.

In Arezzo, Christmas unfolds on foot. Stroll uphill through the historic centre, wander through squares and narrow streets, pause at shop windows and wait for dusk to cast the buildings in a new light.

At the heart of the celebrations is Piazza Grande, where the Tyrolean Village’s wooden chalets stand against the backdrop of the Vasari Loggias, the apse of the Pieve church and the Palazzo della Fraternita dei Laici. With exhibitors from Tyrol, Austria and Germany, gift shopping goes hand in hand with food. The Baitine del Gusto food stalls serve pork knuckle, sausages, polenta, pretzels, sausage sandwiches and craft beers: Alpine flavours in an unmistakably Tuscan setting.

Continue towards Piazza San Jacopo and Piazza Risorgimento, where markets featuring crafts and regional food specialities are scheduled to remain until Epiphany. Browse the chalets alongside the shops of the city centre and take your time choosing a gift. A meal in a local trattoria offers a chance to follow those Tyrolean tastings with the flavours of the surrounding countryside.

For families, the Medici Fortress will host Santa’s House, with entertainment, workshops and Christmas letters to post. Visitors can meet Santa until 24 December, while Christmas activities at the Fortress will continue until 6 January.

Back in Piazza Grande, Brick House Art, inside the Palazzo della Fraternita dei Laici, brings together artworks and models made from building bricks, alongside creative workshops. Scheduled from 14 November to 6 January, admission is €10, with free entry for children aged three and under and for visitors with disabilities accompanied by one carer.

Amid twinkling lanes, festive aromas and historic squares, Arezzo embraces the magic of Christmas. An unmissable chance to discover the city or fall in love with it all over again.

The city lights up: at dusk, the projections of Arezzo Christmas Light invite visitors to see Piazza Grande and the Town Hall in a different light. Save this part of the day for a stroll and photographs before dinner. Those staying for a weekend can also devote a morning to art, booking a visit to Piero della Francesca’s Legend of the True Cross frescoes in the Basilica of San Francesco.

The market’s advertised opening hours are 10am–9pm, Thursday to Sunday, with daily opening from 17 to 27 December and a final closing time of 8pm.
